The Business and Finance Analyst conducts business administration and financial management for Graduate Programs in Bioscience, a consortium of Ph.D. programs in the biomedical and life sciences. The analyst is responsible for the day-to-day business and financial operations of the program, including interdepartmental coordination of student support funding and recruitment travel arrangements. The fast-paced job will require skills in financial management and analysis, deep knowledge of university business and financial policies and procedures, including the finer points of graduate student funding. The analyst must develop and maintain excellent relationships with faculty, staff, and students across departments in the David Geffen School of Medicine and the College of Letters and Science's life science division.
Knowledge and experience with university policies and procedures related to finance and business processes, including merit-based student financial aid, travel and entertainment administration, purchasing/procurement, and sponsored research administration
Demonstrated skill in financial planning and analysis, accounting, and internal controls, including the development and estimation of budgets
Demonstrated knowledge of general university accounting practices
Skill in performing various accounting transactions such as debiting, crediting, reconciling expenses, preparing transfer of payroll and non-payroll expenses
Demonstrated knowledge of university accounting policies and procedures, including transfer of funds, purchasing, travel and entertainment, personnel and payroll and query databases.
Skill in using university online financial system reports. Ability to manipulate and utilize existing data within financial databases
Skill in organizing and maintaining up to date, accurate bookkeeping records online and maintaining alpha-numeric files
Ability to arrange travel reservations and plans for others and process travel and entertainment expense reimbursements
Demonstrated knowledge of university contract and grant administration, extramural fund management, and corporate/general accounting, including pre- and post-award administration
Demonstrated knowledge of merit-based financial aid mechanisms
Skill in discovering and analyzing information to develop context, define problems, and propose solutions
Experience developing reporting and tracking systems for financial activity across departments
Skill in organizing material, information, and people to optimize efficiency and to minimize duplication of effort
Ability to set priorities, perform assignments independently with minimal supervision, and complete work in a timely and accurate manner
Demonstrated skills in using standard business software (e.g. word processing, presentation, spreadsheets, portable document format, and university online accounting systems)
